Seizing the opening, Meleager was the third to strike, the argobronze spear piercing the thing’s AT field, searching for its heart… but there was no heart. And that was no AT field.
Yet Meleager did not recoil in fear, a true descendant of his father, the boar-slayer, but followed through with his ill-fated thrust, salvaging what he could, if not the wound then his life, and if that proved too much, at least the lives of his companions.
